What Causes An Enlarged Spleen?

Infections

Various infections could lead to an inflamed spleen and some of these include viral hepatitis, HIV/AIDS [2], infectious mononucleosis, tuberculosis, and malaria. These infections are either parasitic, viral, or bacterial in nature and may affect parts of the body with direct ties to the spleen leading to enlargement. Some of the infections may not be fatal but proper treatment is required to prevent the problem from deteriorating. These infections may sometimes overwhelm the white blood cell production capacity of the spleen. The spleen could get attacked by these infections leading to enlargement.
