Treatment for Esophagitis

Treatment approach will depend on the cause of your symptoms. Medications that may be prescribed include antiviral medications, antifungal medications, antacids, pain relievers, oral steroids and proton pump inhibitors (these medications block stomach acid production).
If the cause of your condition is food allergy, you will need to identify trigger foods and avoid them. Common food allergens include milk, soy, eggs, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts and shellfish.
Avoiding spicy foods, acidic foods and drinks, and raw or hard food can also discuss with your doctor about dietary guidelines. Alcohol and tobacco should also be avoided.
If your esophagus becomes too narrow and causes food to lodges, a procedure to dilate it may be necessary.
If your symptoms are due to medication, your doctor will recommend you drink more water, take a liquid version of the medication, or try a different medication. And you may need to refrain from lying down for 30 minutes after taking medication in pill form.
