Diagnosis

If there are signs of peptic ulcers in your infant, as well gastritis or H.pylori, pediatric gastroenterologist will conduct the following examinations and tests to make a diagnosis of pylori infection. [9]
- Physical inspection: A physician can check the abdomen for signs of bloating and will control the weight loss of your infant.
- Total medical history: Your child’s physician will review the health records and family health history of your child.
- Gastrointestinal upper endoscopy (GI): An upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy may be done by your child’s doctor to evaluate the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. [10]
- Biopsies: In order to study the cells for signs of injury or infection, a pediatric gastroenterologist may take a stomach tissue sample.
- Blood test: The existence of other causes for abdominal pain can be confirmed by a number of blood tests. [11]
- Breath test: Breath tests calculate the quantity of gases in the breath, such as hydrogen, which may be a sign of intestinal bacterial overgrowth or lactose intolerance. [12]
- Tests on stools: The doctor may get information about diseases that may disrupt the digestive tract by examining the contents of your child’s stool.
