E. coli Urinary Infection

During pregnancy, it is common for women to have frequent episodes of urinary tract infection, most often caused by Escherichia coli. During pregnancy, it is possible for the bacteria to reach the urethra, where it proliferates and causes symptoms such as pain, burning, and urgency of urine.
Urinary tract infection caused by E. coli is more common in women due to the close proximity between the anus and the vagina, making it easier for bacteria to transmit from one place to another. [11]To prevent this, women should drink plenty of water, avoid the constant use of douches in the vaginal area and clean this area from the vagina to the anus.
Some of the main symptoms of E. coli urinary infection are:
- Pain and burning when urinating.
- Persistent low fever.
- A feeling of not being able to empty the bladder completely.
- Cloudy urine.
- Presence of blood in the urine.[12]
The diagnosis of Escherichia coli urinary infection is made by the doctor according to the symptoms presented by the person and the result of the type 1 urine test and urine culture, which indicate whether there is an infection and which is the best antibiotic to treat.
