Peptic Ulcer
Peptic ulcers are a common cause of stomach pain. This condition is typically caused by the presence of Helicobacter pylori bacteria in the stomach but long-term use of pain relievers can contribute to it.
The inner wall of the stomach is lined by a layer of mucus that gets destroyed by stomach acid and the activities of these bacteria. The erosion of the mucosa makes it easy for the bacteria to colonize the stomach and open sores may appear on the walls of the stomach. Treatment often includes regimes of antibiotics and antacids.
