Side effects
Brachytherapy can lead to several side effects. With proper management and evaluation, they always get better with time.
Side effects of brachytherapy include:
- Pain and swelling at or near the injection site
- Constipation [2]
- Frequent urination
- Fatigue [3]
- Inability to pass urine
- Blood in semen [4]
- Traces of blood in the urine
- Diarrhea [5]
- Painful ejaculation [6]
- Loose stools
- Burning sensation during urination
Contact 911 or your local emergency number if you are unable to urinate. Your doctor may have to drain the urine and watch you closely for better evaluation.
It is important to note that not everyone who undergoes the brachytherapy procedure will experience side effects.
