Hair Loss

Hair loss is one of the more extreme signs of thyroid disorders. It can happen in people with severe and chronic cases of either hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism (abnormally high thyroid hormone production).
Hair loss due to an underactive thyroid is usually widespread on the head. [6] It doesn’t occur in pockets and usually affects the entire scalp uniformly. Typically, the hair loss becomes obvious several months after this disorder begins. This symptom is very rare in mild or moderate cases of hypothyroidism.
Recovery of lost hair is usually possible once the thyroid disorder has been treated. This regrowth may take several months and may be incomplete. [7]
