Signs of Battered Woman Syndrome

Several unique symptoms are brought on by battered woman syndrome. A victim of domestic violence may:
- think they are to blame for the abuse
- not discuss the abuse with relatives and friends
- fear for their safety or the safety of their children
- believe that the abuser has complete knowledge of their every move.
- be terrified since they never know if they’ll see their partner’s abusive or loving side that day
Warning signs
If you have concerns about a friend or family member, keep an eye out for a few key signs that may indicate that they are in an abusive relationship and require assistance. They consist of:
- withdrawing and coming up with reasons not to see friends, family, or engage in activities they used to do (this can be something the abuser is controlling)
- showing signs of fear or anxiety [3] around their relationship
- having regular bruising or injuries they can’t explain or lie about
- being unable to access credit cards, cash, or transportation
- demonstrating a marked personality difference
- receiving many calls from a partner, particularly calls that ask them to check in or that make them appear anxious
- having a companion that is possessive, easily enraged, or has a temper
- wearing clothes that cover up bruises
