Should I Worry About a Crusty Mole?

A painful or bleeding scabbing mole may be cause for concern

Change is one of the main characteristics dermatologists look for in malignant moles. Scratching or crusting may be a sign of melanoma. If a scabbing mole additionally bleeds or hurts, that’s cause for concern. Additionally, other changes like size, shape, color, or itching are possible.

Because the cancer cells alter the structure and function of apparently healthy cells, melanomas can scab. The skin cells may respond in a variety of ways, from changes in color to those that result in a crusting or scabbing texture.
