What Is Celiac Disease?

Celiac disease is a sickness that occurs when the immune system fights against its own tissue after consuming gluten. This causes disruption in the functions of the gut (small intestine). As a result, the body is unable to absorb nutrients.

Celiac disease can lead to several symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain and bloating. It is majorly caused by a harmful reaction to gluten in the system. Gluten can be seen in meals like wheat, barley and rye. It can also be found in foods that contain these cereals such as, pasta, cakes, breakfast cereals, most kinds of bread, some ready foods and several types of sauces.
