What are the risk factors for fatigue in inflammatory bowel disease?

Numerous studies have shown the effects of certain factors on fatigue in inflammatory bowel disease.
The following factors play significant roles in the likelihood of having fatigue with IBD:
- Having Crohn’s disease for a shorter period of time
- Being a younger age
- Experiencing depression or anxiety
- Not engaging in physical activities frequently
- Not getting sufficient sleep
- Having increased pain levels
- Being female, or being assigned female at birth
- Having a high body mass index (BMI)
Fatigue is a complicated condition that can be caused by lifestyle, psychological, and physical factors. More research would help understand various factors that affect fatigue in Crohn’s disease and how they interact with one another.
