Treating Hypoglycemia

When the blood sugar levels are very low, it is vital to consume carbohydrate. The American diabetes association advise that your snack should contain at least 15 grams of carbohydrate. Examples of good snacks to keep on hand are:
- Jelly beans or gumdrops
- Non-diet soda or juice
- Fresh or dried fruits
- Hard candles
- Honey or table sugar
You can also use glucose tablets to increase your blood sugar level if it is low. You should wait 15 minutes after eating or using a glucose tablet before checking your blood sugar level. Symptoms of low blood sugar could worsen if they are not treated properly.
