The Side Effects of Melatonin

Depression

Consuming melatonin can result in depression [5]. However, there’s still research on the effects of taking melatonin on depression. According to a 2016 review of a recent study on melatonin, there was no significant adverse effect linked to the use of melatonin. However, taking melatonin can lead to temporary symptoms of depression.

In a small 2002 study, it was discovered that individuals with depression might have higher levels of melatonin. Some conditions can worsen due to depression, including asthma, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and asthma.

Individuals with depressive symptoms experience mood changes like anger, aggressiveness, irritability, restlessness, and anxiousness.

Conclusion

Melatonin is a hormone that helps promote sleep, and consuming the supplements may be suitable for a short-term basis. However, it’s essential to speak to the doctor about these possible side effects before undergoing the treatment.
