Serious side effects
Although serious side effects of actos may not be common, they mostly occur when the drug is used for a long time. It is important to call your doctor immediately if you notice any serious side effects of Actos. Some effects might require the attention of an emergency unit.
You may experience the following serious side effects of Actos:
- Bone fractures (broken bones) [3]
- Allergic reaction
- Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) [4]
- Edema (fluid buildup in your body)
- Macular edema (fluid buildup in part of your eye) [5]
- New or worsening congestive heart failure†
- Bladder cancer [6]
- Liver conditions
Edema can also occur as a symptom of heart failure, and a serious side effect of Actos.
