Byetta comes in the form of a prefilled injection pen. It is available in majorly two strength which are 5 mcg per dose and 10 mcg per dose. Each injection pen contains 60 doses. Byetta is supplied as a sterile solution for subcutaneous injection containing 250 mcg/ml exenatide. You should only use the medication if it is clear, colorless, and contains no particles.

Dosage for Type 2 Diabetes

If your doctor prescribes Byetta for you in the case of type 2 diabetes, a well detailed dosage to follow will come along with it. Your starting dosage of Byetta will likely be 5 mcg injected twice a day, to be injected an hour before your two main meal of the day (breakfast and dinner). Most people give themselves one injection in the hour before breakfast and another in the hour before dinner.

However, your doctor would also tell you that if you don’t eat much breakfast, you should move the dosage to an hour before you eat lunch. Your second injection still remaining in the hour before dinner. The most important to note is the meals should be 6 hours apart. If you get confused on when to give yourself the injection, you should immediately reach out to your doctor.

After you must have been consistent in taking your medication for four weeks. Your doctor may then increase your dosage from 5 mcg to 10 mcg twice a day. This will depend on how well your blood sugar levels respond to Byetta injection. After close observation, your doctor will decide what the best dosage is for you.
