Glucose Tolerance Testing

You doctor may conduct a glucose tolerance test for 2 hours to know if you have diabetes or prediabetes. Your blood glucose [6] can be known from this test. After the test, you will be given a sugary fluid and your glucose level is checked again.

  • A blood sugar level lower than 140 mg/dL after 2 hours is seen as normal.
  • A reading of 200mg/dL or higher means you have diabetes.
  • A level between 140 mg/dL and 199 mg/dL means you have diabetes.

Random Blood Draws

This test is done for people experiencing significant diabetes symptoms. But the American Diabetes Association (ADA) does not advise people to do random blood draws for diabetes screening or prediabetes.
