Types of SGLT2 inhibitors

According to studies carried out by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), only four types of SGLT2 inhibitors can be used for type 2 diabetes:

Invokana (canagliflozin)

Doctors prescribe Invokana to adults with type 2 diabetes for the following purposes:

  • Reduces the chances of having cardiovascular death, and kidney disease. It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults who have diabetic neuropathy.
  • To facilitate the management of blood sugar
  • To make you less susceptible to cardiovascular side effects, especially if you have an underlying cardiovascular disease.

Invokana was approved by the FDA in 2013. The standard Dosage for this medication is 100-300 mg per day.
