SGLT2 Inhibitors: What It Is, Side Effects, and More

Farxiga (dapagliflozin)

Farxiga can be used to treat heart failure and type 2 diabetes. It was approved by the FDA in 2014. The dosage depends on the condition and its severity. For example, 5-10 mg per day is the standard dose for type 2 diabetes and 10 mg per day for heart failure. The drug is used to:

  • Reduce the risk of further worsening of kidney disease and slow the progression toward end-stage kidney disease
  • Improve management of blood sugar
  • Make you less susceptible to cardiovascular death. It also reduces the risk of getting hospitalized for heart failure with a decreased ejection fraction
  • Decrease the chances of getting hospitalized for heart failure in adults who have an underlying cardiovascular disease
