ACL Reconstruction Surgery: Procedure And Recovery

Who Needs ACL Reconstruction Surgery?

Your doctor will recommend an ACL reconstruction surgery based on the severity of the tear and the lifestyle of the patient. A complete ACL tear cannot heal on its own. However, various studies show that some cases of partial ACL tear may heal without any surgical intervention.

Types: Partial and Complete ACL Tears

There are two major types of anterior cruciate ligament tear; partial and complete. In most cases, treatments usually depend on the type of tear. Doctors often recommend two manual tests to determine whether a test is partial or complete, they include;

  • Lachman test: This test involves pulling the shin bone away from the thigh bone. If it is a partial tear, the bones will not move or move slightly. This test must be done by a physician.
  • Pivot shift
  • Your injury causes your knee to buckle during routine activities, such as walking
  • You are young and active
  • You are an athlete who wants to remain active
