ACL Reconstruction Surgery: Procedure And Recovery

Recovery

After an ACL reconstructive surgery, rehabilitation plays a significant role in ensuring the procedure is successful. Immediately after your surgery, your doctor will advise you to take pain drugs, rest regularly, and ensure your incision is always clean and dry. Your doctor will also advise you to ice your knee regularly because it helps reduce pain and swelling. You will have a follow-up appointment with your surgeon a few weeks after your procedure.

Recovery after an ACL reconstruction usually takes time. Here are few things you will experience after your ACL surgery:

  • Some pain
  • Wearing a knee brace for a week or more
  • Restricted activity for several months
  • Walking with crutches for up to six weeks
