How to prevent hair loss

You may find it difficult to avoid losing hair after bariatric surgery. The body naturally reacts to the surgery by changing diet and weight loss. Your healthcare provider may recommend different ways to reduce or control hair loss, including:
- Stick to your doctor’s instructions. Use the diet plan created by your doctor.
- Consume adequate protein. Add protein to your snacks and meals. It would help to talk to your doctor about nutritional supplements that have protein. Do not consume more than your doctor recommends, to avoid any disruption in your Weight-loss plan.
- Consume nutritional supplements recommended by your healthcare provider. Vitamin A, B9, C, iron, and zinc are examples of oral supplements. Copper supplements are administered intravenously.
- Do not take more than the recommended supplements to avoid worsening hair loss. According to research, excess selenium [6] and vitamin A and E may result in further hair loss.
- Follow your recovery schedule provided by your healthcare provider.
Make sure you have sufficient level nutrients such as iron, vitamin B12, and zinc before undergoing surgery. The Food and Drug Administration does not regulate nutritional supplements, so brands have different qualities. If you overuse a supplement, it can result in toxicity. It is important to visit a doctor after your bariatric surgery.
