Overview
Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) is a medical condition where the pancreas is unable to produce some enzymes the human body needs for digestion. Enzymes are biological catalysts that are capable of accelerating or slowing down the rate of a chemical reaction. Examples of these enzymes include amylase and lipase [1].
This insufficiency is mainly seen in some medical conditions such as cystic fibrosis and pancreatitis. Cystic fibrosis occurs during infanthood while pancreatitis occurs later in life.
This condition often results in indigestion and the inability to digest food properly.
