Aortic Aneurysm: Symptoms & Treatment

Beta-blockers

Doctors often prescribe beta-blockers [6] to help regulate blood pressure. This drug works by slowing your heart rate. With your blood pressure low, there is a reduced risk of your aneurysm rupturing due to the force with which blood is traveling through your blood vessels. Beta-blockers often prescribed include atenolol (Tenormin), bisoprolol, and metoprolol (Lopressor, Kapspargo Sprinkle).

If you have Marfan syndrome, taking beta-blockers may cause your aorta to widen more slowly. Marfan syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects the connective tissues of the aorta and heart valves.
