Aortic Aneurysm: Symptoms & Treatment

How are aortic aneurysms treated?

Treatment for aortic aneurysms depends on the location, size, and health or age of the patient. High-risk aneurysms are treated differently from small, low-risk aneurysms.

If you have a small aneurysm without symptoms, doctors may only monitor the progress of your aneurysm through regular scans. Doctors do this using imaging tests.

If you have high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, or other cardiovascular problems, your doctor will often prescribe medications to lower your blood pressure and reduce the risk of a rupture. This is usually done when the aneurysm is not yet high-risk.

Lifestyle changes

Lifestyle changes can help reduce the risk of a rupture. You should quit smoking [5] and using tobacco products if you do because they can worsen your aneurysm. This is especially important if you have a thoracic aneurysm. Exercise regularly and avoid diets high in cholesterol and fat.
