Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm: Symptoms, Causes & Treatment

Symptoms of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Most people with AAA don’t have or experience any symptoms until the aneurysm is close to rupturing. At that point you may experience:

  • Pain in your leg, groin or pelvic area
  • Steady deep pain in your lower back or abdomen
  • A pulsing sensation in your belly that feels like a heartbeat.

A ruptured AAA is a medical emergency. Symptoms begin suddenly and unexpectedly and can include:

  • Low blood pressure
  • Severe pain in your lower back, belly or legs
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea [1]
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness or fainting
  • Clammy, sweaty skin.

Call 911 or your local emergency number if you experience any symptoms of ruptured aneurysm.
