10 Symptoms of High-Functioning Autism

Linguistic Oddities

Children on the low-functioning end of the autism spectrum usually find it difficult to learn how to speak, improve vocabulary and hold conversations with other people. Their counterparts on the higher end of the spectrum may begin talking much earlier than normal and often display an impressive vocabulary. They may not be interested in having conversations with others or they cannot follow and may avoid speaking with their peers. In most cases, people with mild autism may simply seem eccentric when having discussions because their diverse vocabularies, regular interruptions or focus on particular topics seem like oddities rather than neurological manifestations.
