Signs of Non-Speaking Autism

According to studies, 30-40 percent of children with non-speaking autism start to observe symptoms before one year old, while 60-70 percent observe symptoms after 2 years old.

You may notice these early signs in your child:

  • Not responding to their name by 12 months old.
  • Get angry when their routine is disrupted.
  • Not playing or laughing along with their parents by 12 months old.
  • Not pointing to objects, they love by 14 months old.
  • Moving their body or clapping their hands for comfort.
  • Not playing pretend by 18 months old.
  • Preferring to be alone or avoiding eye contact.
  • Not reaching certain development targets for language and speech.
  • Repeating phrases or words many times.
