Necrotizing Fasciitis (Flesh Eating Bacteria): An Overview

What Are the Symptoms of Necrotizing Fasciitis?

The first symptoms that accompany necrotizing fasciitis are not usually serious. In some cases, your skin may get warm and red, and you may feel like you’ve pulled a muscle. The symptoms could also present themselves as the flu.

A small red bump could also be a symptom of necrotizing fasciitis. However, the red bump may get bigger as the condition progresses. The pain will also worsen and the infected area will get bigger. The infected area may start to ooze and become discolored. Blisters, black dots, bumps, and other types of skin lesions may occur. The pain is usually much worse in the early stages of the condition.

Necrotizing fasciitis may be accompanied by other symptoms, such as:

  • Irregular urination
  • Fever with chills and sweating
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness [4]
  • Fatigue [5]
