Hernias should be treated as soon as they are discovered to prevent any complications that may arise due to further protruding of your organs. It is rare for hernias to heal themselves therefore surgery is recommended to correct the problem. In the case of umbilical hernia [4] in infants, there is usually a wait period of four to five years and if the hernia does not heal, surgery is recommended.
There are three types of surgery that are used when treating hernia. Each of these surgery types have their merits and demerits and are only recommended depending on the type of hernia.
