5 Common Treatments for Hernia

Open Surgery and Laparoscopic Surgery

As the name suggests, open surgery involves making incisions at the affected area and manual adjustments are made to the protruding tissue. The weak muscle is also stitched back together to prevent a recurrence and in the case of extremely serious hernias, a mesh is introduced to the stomach to give extra support. The mesh is compatible with the body and prevents any further complications.

Laparoscopic surgery is a bit similar to open surgery as it entails the same processes, but the major difference is the incisions. Instead of cuts outside the affected spot, tiny incisions are made to enable the insertion of surgical tools. These surgical tools are then used to conduct the surgery and mend the weak muscle walls. This procedure best suits less complicated hernias such as those at the beginning stages of protrusion. It is up to the attending surgeon to determine if this operation is right for your case.
