9 Symptoms of Clostridium Difficile Colitis

Abdominal Pain

Abdominal or stomach pain and cramping is a severe symptom of C. diff. Patients have described this pain as a stabbing, burning, gnawing sensation that feels like your insides are being eaten alive from the inside out. A patient experienced abdominal pains non-stop for up to ten days before receiving a diagnosis of clostridium difficile infection (CDI). Fidaxomicin or vancomycin can help alleviate this symptom within ten to fourteen days after starting treatment. However, twenty percent of patients are at risk of a recurrence.

High Body Temperature (Fever)

Abnormally high body temperature, also known as fever is a common symptom of this condition. In a recent study, all patients that were diagnosed with this disease had fevers 37.5°C or higher. Medical reports usually show a CDI patient suffering a high fever of 102 F to 104, which is 39 C to 40 C.
