Clavicle Fractures – Treatment and Management

Clavicle Fracture in Infants

Clavicle fractures in infants can occur during delivery. Shoulder dystopia, [2] a condition where the baby’s shoulder gets stuck in the vagina during delivery, may also cause collarbone fracture.

How to Diagnose Clavicle Fracture

To diagnose clavicle fracture, your doctor will ask certain questions to know your symptoms and how the injury occurred. They will also examine your shoulder, and ask you to move your arm, finger, and hands to see if you feel any pain. In some cases, the location of the fracture will be easy to identify because the bone will be pushing up beneath your skin. Your doctor may want to check to see if nerves or blood vessels were affected.

Your doctor will recommend shoulder X-rays to detect the exact location of the break, if the bone fragments have moved, and if other bones were affected. They may also order a CT scan to observe the fracture or fractures more thoroughly.
