Symptoms of compression fractures

Symptoms of Compression fracture range from mild to severe. Some people may not experience any symptoms. Their healthcare provider may discover the fracture when conducting an X-ray for another condition. But the condition makes it difficult for one to stand or walk without pain. Symptoms of a fractured spine include:
- Chronic back pain is a type of back pain that can develop unexpectedly and persist for a long period. Anywhere between the shoulders and the lower back is where it typically occurs. When you lie down, pain typically becomes better, and when you stand or move, it usually gets worse.
- Hunched-over appearance; this bent upper back is also referred to as a “dowager’s hump” or a “hunchback.”
- Decreased spine flexibility or mobility. You might not be able to bend over or twist.
- Height loss because of the curved back and compressed vertebrae.
- Bladder or bowel control issues (these symptoms occur with serious, untreated fractures).
- Nerve damage and pinched nerves can make it difficult to walk and cause tingling and numbness in the back.
