Comfort measures

Crying and agitation can exacerbate a child’s symptoms. They can make it difficult for them to breathe. The best way to help a child with a croup is comfort. Doctors advise parents to offer their children a lot of cuddles or watch a favorite movie or show. Parents can try other comfort measures such as
- Reassuring them in a soft, soothing voice
- Giving them a favorite toy to hold
- Singing a favorite song
- Rubbing their back
You can also sleep with or by your child when they have a croup. Reassure them as often as possible especially during the night, because symptoms get worse at night.
