Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis is a condition that occurs when the spaces between your vertebrae start to narrow due to normal wear and tear as you age. Pressure may build on your spinal cord and nerve roots. These are the parts of your nerves that move out from your spine itself. Arthritis and spinal injuries, like fractures, may also lead to spinal stenosis.
Symptoms of spinal stenosis may start slowly and may include pain in your lower back, and a burning or tingling sensation that moves down through your legs and buttocks.
Treatment
Physical therapy is typically the first-line treatment. Your doctor may recommend a back brace or help manage symptoms. You can also take pain-relieving drugs to help anytime symptoms flare ups. If the back pain is severe, your doctor may recommend surgery. The procedure aims to create more space within your spinal canal to reduce pressure on your spinal cord or nerve roots.
