Kidney Infection

Kidney infections are commonly caused by bacteria, such as E.coli, which lives in your bowel, moving through your ureter, and into the bladder and kidneys. The symptoms are usually similar to those of other urinary tract infections, and may include:
- Cloudy, dark, or foul-smelling urine
- Back and abdominal pain
- Feeling an urgent need to urinate
- Burning urination [3]
Kidney infection may also make you feel sick, and you may experience:
- Fever [4]
- Chills
- Nausea [5]
- Vomiting
Kidney infection is the leading cause of permanent kidney damage and a life-threatening blood infection [6], which may occur due to an untreated kidney infection. Therefore, it is important to contact your doctor immediately if you suspect a kidney infection. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics to fight off the bacteria.
