Myelopathy: Symptoms, Causes and Treatments

Thoracic Myelopathy

Thoracic myelopathy occurs when a disc bulges or herniates, bone spurs form, or the spine is injured, and there is compression of the spinal cord in the region.

Middle of the spine is called the thoracic area. Its location is indicated by the term thoracic myelopathy. Although thoracic myelopathy occurs at the thoracic region, the pain will likely be felt in other parts of the spines.

In addition to walking and balance issues, thoracic myelopathy symptoms include pain and weakness in the hands and legs.3 Loss of bowel, bladder, or sexual function can also occur in people with this illness.

Testing is necessary to identify whether someone has thoracic myelopathy because the symptoms are not specific to this condition and are also present in other types of myelopathy. In addition to MRI scans of the spinal cord and spinal canal, this may also involve X-rays, nerve function tests, and other imaging procedures.<
