Preeclampsia
Preeclampsia is a condition that occurs in 5 to 8 percent of pregnant women. It often arises during the period between 20 weeks during gestation and 6 weeks after giving birth. People with this complication tends to have swelling, especially in the feet, hands, and face. Other symptoms include vomiting, nausea, shortness of breath, vision changes, unexpected weight gain, headache, and pain in the right upper quadrant that might radiate to the lower back and shoulder.
A sudden increase in blood pressure might be a major trigger of preeclampsia. Thus, your healthcare provider might have to monitor this measurement with frequent prenatal checkups. Immediate medical attention is needed whenever you notice any signs mentioned above.[2]
