Gallbladder conditions, such as choledocholithiasis or gallstones can cause pain under the right rib cage. Choledocholithiasis is the presence of gallstones in your bile ducts. Pain beneath the right rib that occurs due to gallstones may last for a long period. It may also be accompanied by the following symptoms:

Fever
Darkened urine or light-colored stools
Nausea and vomiting [6]
Yellowish skin (jaundice)
Chills
