Seasonal Allergies Signs, Symptoms & Treatments

Home or folk remedies

There are several folk and home remedies said to help treat seasonal allergies. The evidence for their efficacy is largely anecdotal. If you decide to try any of them, you should consult your doctor first. Butterbur extracts and spirulina [10] are thought to help relieve allergy symptoms. Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae often used as a food supplement. Some people recommend apple cider vinegar [11] because it is believed to strengthen the immune system and help break down mucus. Vitamin C is another frequently recommended home remedy for seasonal allergies. This is because vitamin C has some antihistamine properties. Probiotics like Lactobacillus acidophilus found in yogurt are also considered effective. According to Mayo Clinic [12], there is some evidence that acupuncture is effective in treating allergies, but this evidence is limited. You may still want to try it since it is relatively harmless.
