When emphysema has been present for a long while, patients would gradually come down with weight loss. This is because of the labored breathing that is often present at this stage. With the increased difficulty in breathing, your body would expend so much energy trying to compensate for this faulty process. That way, they burn a great number of numbers in a day that leads to weight loss in these patients. [4]
