Treatments for wrist pain

Treatment options for wrist pain usually depend on the cause. For carpal tunnel syndrome, your doctor may recommend the following treatment options:
- Wearing a wrist brace or splint to reduce swelling and ease wrist pain
- Applying hot or cold compresses for 10 to 20 minutes at a time
- Taking anti-inflammatory or pain relieving medications, such as ibuprofen or naproxen

- Having surgery to repair the median nerve in severe cases of wrist pain.
Your doctor may recommend the following to treat gout:

- Reducing your consumption of high fat foods and alcohol
- Taking drugs your doctor prescribes to decrease the uric acid in your body
Treatment for ganglion cysts may include:
- wearing a splint to keep the wrist from moving
- aspiration (draining the cyst)
- surgically removing the cyst
