Treatment for Huntington’s Disease
There is no treatment that can reverse or stop HD, but some of the symptoms can be treated:
- Antipsychotic drugs may ease chorea and help to control delusions, hallucinations, and violent outbursts
- The drugs tetrabenazine and deutetrabenazine can treat chorea associated with HD
- Drugs to treat depression [3] and anxiety [4]
You may experience some side effects of the drugs, such as fatigue, sedation, decreased concentration, restlessness, or hyperexcitability. These drugs are only recommended when the condition makes it difficult to perform basic life activities.
