Use Mobility Aids

If spasticity has made it hard for you to move around, doctors might recommend using mobility aids to make movement easy. Examples are:

  • Braces
  • Walkers
  • Wheelchairs
  • Canes

Exercises can be done to improve the spasticity that occurs after stroke. Here are eight ways you can try at home:

Shifting Your Weight

This is commonly recommended by occupational therapist. It is used by people that experienced a mild or severe stroke which can decrease their ability to balance in a seated position. Follow these steps to do it:

  • Sit in a chair with your back straight.
  • Slowly push your weight to one side.
  • Hold for several seconds.
  • Move your weight back to center.
  • Slowly shift your weight to the opposite side.
  • Hold for some seconds.
  • Return to center and repeat 6 to 10 times on each side.
