What Causes Dementia?

Heredity Factors

Many people are often worried about whether dementia could be inherited. Indeed, current research shows that there are several genes involved in the development of dementia. However, many people do not develop dementia even if someone in the family history has dementia, and even if they do, it is unlikely that it is a genetic effect.

For example, in “Alzheimer’s disease”, the incidence increases as the elderly get older, so it is thought that the influence of aging is considerable, and the influence of heredity is more inconsequential. Even with “juvenile Alzheimer’s disease,” which is said to be mostly due to hereditary factors, research shows that only about 10% of those who develop it are suspected of developing it due to heredity factors.
