Breast Cancer in Children – What to Know

Treatment of children breast cancer

The treatment for breast cancer varies from child to child. Therefore, it is advised to see a doctor for proper checkup and recommendations.

For children with benign fibroadenomas, there is no serious treatment for it because in some cases, they disappear. However, it is meant to be monitored for change in size or shape. If the fibroadenomas begin to grow then there is a need for treatment. In cases of malignant breast cancer, a pediatric oncologist [5] gives the right treatments. These recommendations may include;

  • Radiation therapy: this is the use of high powered beams of energy to kill cancer cells. The use of x-rays, protons or other particles is applied for targeting the harmful cells.
  • Surgery: this is done if the tumor is too big to ignore or for radiation to kill.
  • Targeted drug therapy is also used to attack cancer without harming other cells.
