NED, Remission and Cancer-free: What to Know

Recurrence

In some cases, cancer cells remain unnoticed in the body for several years after completing treatment. Recurrence is a term used to describe a case when the disease returns after remission. Cancer can recur in the exact location it was before or in another place entirely. For example, if a patient had brain cancer before remission, it can reoccur either in the brain or in the lungs.

It is totally normal to worry if this is going to be your case but just remember that every individual’s situation is different. There is no way to predict what will happen to you. Some people go through remission and never have to think of the disease again while it is the other way round for others.

Your healthcare center or doctor(oncologist) will keep on checking for signs and indications of the disease. It is very important to go for all recommended checkups, even if you don’t have any symptoms. Some follow up tests include; blood tests, CT scans, MRI, physical exams.
