Is Surgery An Option?

In very severe cases, surgery could be an option. Surgery involves the total removal of the inflamed colon and the rectum. This process is called colectomy [6]. When they are removed, a new route has to be made for the passage of fecal waste. A colostomy bag may be attached to the stomach or small intestine to allow the passage of waste to the exterior. Someone who undergoes a colectomy might require a colostomy bag for life.
This procedure however comes with side effects. It is not a compulsory option but it can be an option when the case is severe.
