Conclusion

Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation of the colon and rectum. It’s a life threatening disease caused mostly by autoimmunity and it requires urgent medical attention. Symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal pain, and weight loss are common and the severity of the condition varies in different people.
There is no specific cure for this condition. The symptoms can however be managed to reduce the severity of the disease. Surgery can be an option in severe cases and this will require the removal of the inflamed colon. Communication with your doctor is key in the proper management of this disease.
