Causes of gastroparesis

People diagnosed with gastroparesis have disruptions in their vagus nerve. This impedes nerve function and digestion because the impulses required to break food are altered or stopped. Gastroparesis is difficult to diagnose and can go undiagnosed in some cases.
Gastroparesis is commonly seen in people with high, unregulated high blood glucose levels over a long time. When the blood glucose level is high for a long time, it can lead to nerve damage throughout the body.
Severely high blood sugar levels can also damage blood vessels that send nutrition and oxygen into the body’s nerves and organs. This includes the vagus nerve and digestive tract, both of which can cause gastroparesis.
Gastroparesis is a very progressive disease with symptoms such as severe heartburn and nausea that seem normal, you may not know that you have the disorder.
